was adopted from the Tennessee Valley Humane Society on May 26, 2003 as an 8-week-old kitten. It's been a long time since I've had a kitten around. I had forgotton how much energy is packed into that tiny body.I had forgotten how much trouble it can find to get into and how sharp those little claws and teeth are. And I had forgotten that kittens think they can fly. Simon is named after the possum in the mystery series by Rita Mae Brown and Sneaky Pie Brown. Like the possum, he collects things and hides them in his nests. He has all my hair clips, several scrunchies, two pencils, five index cards and a packet of Post-It notes. His special Treasures -- crumpled paper balls, bottle caps, rings off milk jugs, packing peanuts and strips of mylar -- are stashed throughout the house.

He gets along fine with Peaches, who had been very lonely ever since Tiger, her best buddy, died in March. Peaches had never been an only cat before and didn't like it.

Tweet?!? A decorative birdcage has been his favorite place for a nap since he was a kitten.
